Errant Space Podcast Ninety Four: The Friday Experiment

This month’s podcast is a live performance recorded at The Friday Experiment at Gateway City Arts in Holyoke, MA. It was an interesting show – an evening of continuous ambient performances featuring Craig Douglas, me and Bonnie Kane. Our sets overlapped by a few minutes, so the end of one performers set would become the start of the next.

Presented here is my portion of the evening. I really like the shape of this one, it covers a lot of sonic territory. That’s why I’ve posted it unedited. Its a good example of what an Errant Space performance can be.

Errant Space Podcast Ninety One: From the Basement at Xfest

This month’s podcast was recorded in a basement during Xfest 2022. It features Conor Perreault and Greg Paul (Human Flourishing), Caleb Crittenden, and Irman Peck.

Xfest was held in August, on a compound near Pond Eddy, NY. There was a basement where, on the morning of day 2, we gathered to do some recording. This podcast is the result.

Errant Space Podcast Eighty Six: The Return of Tom Law

This month’s podcast sees the return* of Tom Law, but with a twist!
In addition to being an experimental musician, Tom has an interest in early music and brought along his Viola da Gamba to our session. He incorporated it into his Max/MSP rig and two worlds collided (to weird effect).

Tom Law with Viola da Gamba

We ended up with a wonderfully abstract series of soundscapes which I find very transporting. Best enjoyed in headphones, lying down in a dark room…

*Tom’s first appearance was podcast fifty eight.

Errant Space Podcast Eighty Three: Back to Basics

This month’s podcast is a return to basics. As winter starts winding down I’m reconnecting with the electric guitar as a tone generator, and preparing for live performances again after being in studio mode and getting lost in the world of synthesizers.

I constructed this podcast from five exercises where I explored the sonic and textural palette of my guitar performance rig. It felt a bit like reconnecting with an old friend, and it was nice to be reminded of the strange world of sounds we can create together.

Errant Space Podcast Seventy Seven: Spacing Out with Irman Peck

This month’s podcast features bassist (and synthesist) Irman Peck, from Philadelphia, PA.
Irman was a participant in the Remote Variations series, but this one was recorded live at a Space Out, Outside performance in June 2021.
We covered a lot of ground that afternoon, from contemplative improvisation to weird poly rhythms and textural drones. It’s got something for everyone??

Errant Space Podcast Seventy Six with Andrew Neumann

This month’s podcast features synthesist Andrew Neumann from Boston, MA.

Andrew brought out his Buchla Music Easel(!!) for an open-air recording session in my back yard. We got pretty far out, exploring weird sonic textures and terrain. Its a fun trip, enjoy the ride!

Contrary to what his shirt says (and where he lives), Andrew is a West-Coast synthesist.

Errant Space Podcast Seventy Three: Remote Variations 6 with Anders Nils

This month’s podcast is another in the Remote Variation Series, featuring Anders Nils from Brooklyn, NY. Its very ambient; minimal and droney.

Anders Nils is an electronic musician and producer who primarily focuses on generative ambient music, sound design and instrumental soundtracks. He uses a modular synthesizer, software synths and guitars fed through a wash of delay and reverb effects.
